A mill is filled with hundreds of tonnes of very hard grinding media (e.g. balls or rods).

In order to protect or armour the steel shell of the mill, lining plates are fixed to the whole internal surface. The particular profile of these linings is designed to give the best energy transmission to the ball charge when the mill is rotating.
